Alfa Romeo’s 2025 Tonale refresh brings only interior tweaks and a simplified lineup. The most notable update is the rotary selector, which replaces the traditional gear lever. Changes have also been made to the instrument panel to improve visibility.
Alfa Romeo has given the Tonale a minor refresh for the 2025 model year. You can call it that. This so-called “update”, which will make its world premiere at the Paris Motor Show, is limited to a few interior tweaks and is likely aimed at making the Tonale more competitive in the cutthroat luxury small crossover segment.
What’s new in 2025?
To tell you the truth, there aren’t that many. The main highlight is something no one asked for: a redesigned lower center tunnel with a rotary selector that replaces the traditional gear lever. Alfa also claims to have optimized the instrument cluster, possibly improving the visibility of on-board information such as the clock and fuel gauge. That’s all according to a short excerpt provided by Alfa Romeo.
Review: The new Alfa Romeo Tonale focuses on style and space, but the hybrid needs some work
It remains to be seen if the overall fit and finish has improved. When we reviewed the Tonale, it didn’t exactly redefine luxury, but it was a step forward for Alfa. Admittedly, some of the plastics are still harder than you’d expect compared to higher-end rivals, but unless you go out of your way to touch them, you probably won’t notice. Even the parts that are not soft touch are carefully designed. Although the BMW X1 is more luxurious, the Tonale’s cabin was still a decent place to hang out.

Alfa has also simplified the Tonale’s European lineup, eliminating the flagship Tributo Italiano trim. Buyers are left with only two choices: the base Sprint or the sportier Veloce. Alpha claims this offers a “clear, customer-focused approach”, but it feels like a strategic retreat after aiming too high with its premium pitch. Engine options for Europe include a 130-hp 1.6 turbodiesel, a 160-hp 1.5 Ibrida, and a 280-hp plug-in hybrid Q4.
US buyers will have to wait
Unfortunately, or fortunately, for those who like to keep their hands on the gear lever, these updates won’t arrive stateside until the 2026 model year at the earliest. For the 2025MY, Alfa has completely dismantled its Tonale lineup in the US, eliminating the Sprint, Ti and Veloce trims, leaving only one core version.

What are the advantages? You can also option the Veloce, Active Assist, and Premium packages for additional technology and styling. What are the drawbacks? The 2025 U.S. model costs a hefty $48,195, which is uncomfortably close to the larger Stelvio.
Whether these modest tweaks will help the Tonale compete against rivals like Volvo and BMW is anyone’s guess, but at least Alfa is trying. In a sense.
