AKRON, Ohio — There is a huge need for animals affected by Hurricanes Helen and Milton. And to no one’s surprise, Northeast Ohio is stepping in to help. One of A Kind Pet Rescue in Akron is helping in both Florida and North Carolina in any way we can.
North Carolina has already donated leashes, collars, harnesses and other supplies, which are being transported to remote areas on four-wheelers. Monetary donations are being collected to purchase medicines to treat pets, especially respiratory and skin conditions.
Meanwhile, storms damaged or destroyed shelters in Florida. Adoptable animals that were housed there were removed ahead of the hurricane, but remain at the facility.
“We are working with a transport company. We may go to Florida ourselves in a van, or we may meet them at an agreed upon location,” One of a Kind executive said. Director Tanya Jonda said.
The Akron Shelter is privately operated and relies on fundraising and donations.
