A&K Travel Group has announced that it will rebuild its safari-style luxury tourism properties in Botswana and Uganda in 2025, upgrading and enhancing their appeal.
Gorilla Forest Camp (soon to be Gorilla Forest Lodge) in Uganda offers unparalleled closeness to mountain gorillas. Baines Lodge in Botswana is famous for its Okavango Delta adventures.
Both are part of A&K’s Sanctuary Retreats subsidiary, which owns and operates 12 luxury safari camps and lodges in eastern and southern Africa and four riverboats in Egypt. Both are scheduled to reopen in mid-2025 following renovations.
What will be upgraded?
Gorilla Forest Camp is the only luxury lodge located within the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Each of the 10 suites has been significantly expanded and reimagined. Floor-to-ceiling windows complement the expansive lanai-like deck. Design elements include plaster walls with a clay-like texture, ceilings woven from banana leaves, and views of elongated frames.

The lodge dates back to a 1985 meeting between Abercrombie & Kent founder Jeffrey Kent and the then president of Uganda. The result is a joint effort to create a sustainable tourism model that benefits both the gorillas and the local Batwa people.

Located in the heart of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Baines Lodge offers a retreat for those seeking an authentic safari experience on private land. Each of the six newly designed suites features an extended private deck, star bath, and comfortable daybed.
