A mother faced relentless criticism after sharing a realistic depiction of the impact her newborn baby’s gutter has on home conditions. Some thought she was forcing her family to live in unsanitary conditions, but the reality was that she was a new mother and had little help caring for her partner and two babies. Some people pointed out that.
Not everything in her home is picture perfect. And most importantly, her children are well taken care of, despite the mess on the floor.
During her 24-hour solo day, this new mom collected a total of 17 dirty diapers that were scattered around her house.
Hannah, a travel nurse and mother of two, documented her home just five days after welcoming her second baby. Any parent knows how difficult it is to adjust to life with a newborn, but considering her husband decided to go on a hunting trip and she also had a toddler to take care of, her The case is just a little more difficult than average.
After a day of parenting alone, Hannah decided to count the number of diapers she had changed and left around the house.
In a TikTok video that has been viewed more than 5 million times, Hannah collected a total of 17 diapers that had been left around her house after being changed.
She explained that she doesn’t own a diaper genie or other devices that would make the diaper process easier.
“No wonder why my house smells weird now!” Hannah said she once picked up all the diapers and threw them away.
The video elicited mixed reactions from viewers, but mothers on the scene were quick to praise her honest glimpse into life with their newborns.
Some found it disgusting and unsanitary that the mother left so many dirty diapers around the house without throwing them away.
“I can’t relate to this at all,” one TikTok user commented.
“You don’t need a diaper genie to throw away diapers!” I hope this helps!” another user wrote.
“Why are they scattered around the house like it’s an Easter egg hunt?” another wondered.

While some parents were clearly confused as to why the mother didn’t throw away the diaper as soon as she changed it, other parents empathized with the mother’s struggle.
“I stand with the mother. Being a mother is hard. Postpartum is real. Her baby is eating and peeing. And if this is all she got done today, I’m all for it. I think it’s good,” one TikTok user wrote.
“At least she’s changing diapers! I have no idea what she’s going through,” another user pointed out.
“17 diapers means the baby was loved, cleaned up and cared for 17 times,” said another.
After all, the most important thing is to feed your baby and keep him clean and dry. A messy house is clear evidence of this.
Dirty dishes left in the sink means they ate. A pile of unspread laundry means their clothes are being washed. And having dirty diapers all over the place means you’re not soaking in excrement all day.
Newborns need diaper changes every few hours, but dirty diapers can cause everything from infant dermatitis to bladder infections, so it’s just as important as making sure they’re fed.
Who cares if the house isn’t tidy? Where would you find time to raise a child on a plane by yourself?
Rather, this mother deserves praise and grace for doing what was necessary to care for her baby. She certainly has a lot more going on than her children’s father, who decided that five days after picking up his new baby was the perfect time to go on a hunting trip (as expected, the father receives little criticism—and he didn’t change a single diaper).
Walking to the trash can or diaper genie to throw away your child’s dirty diaper may seem like an easy task, but it can be quite a struggle for postpartum mothers.
More than 1 in 10 new moms experience postpartum depression or anxiety, which makes it difficult to perform basic tasks.
When you’re getting little sleep and your baby is trying to adjust to a new world, it can be overwhelming how quickly things unfold, especially when you don’t have the help of your partner, family, or friends.
It’s not the end of the world if you have a few diapers scattered all over the place. It also does not mean that you are an unequipped mother and are forcing your children to live in unsanitary conditions.
You are only human and doing your best.
In a follow-up video, Hannah called out mom-shamers by revealing that in addition to being a solo parent five days after giving birth, she was also battling a type of flu.
“I’m pretty sure the only reason there could have been 17 dirty diapers in my house was because I had the flu or some bug. I’m caring for two kids by myself. , it was really survival mode,” she said.
“My husband was out of town, so I could barely get up from the couch to go to the bathroom, let alone take care of a newborn and toddler.”
She also pointed out that newborns tend to diaper themselves multiple times a day, and their diapers aren’t always stuffed or smelly.
“My main priorities that day were to feed my newborn and keep my toddler from picking him up with her legs.”
Despite the backlash Hannah received from internet strangers who believed they knew better, the love she received from other parents who recognized all of her efforts. He claimed that there was no comparison.
Whether it’s a pile of unfolded laundry or 17 dishes piled up in the sink, things that were overlooked while raising your children to be happy and healthy, you can turn them into your own “17 diapers.” The number of parents with stories of
Instead of blaming parents for not having a sparkling clean home, we should offer them support, assistance and even home-cooked meals so they don’t have to worry about a dirty kitchen on top of a diaper grenade. You can.
While you’re at it, someone should strongly remind Hannah’s husband to not go hunting a few days after his wife gives birth and to act as a parent.
