The Booth House, also known as the Clark House, is one of Taylor’s most impressive buildings.
The house, located at 2112 W. Lake Drive, is a rare example of the L-plan local style, with an octagonal tower and onion dome roof, polygonal doorways, arched windows, and decorative shingles. , it features many Queen Anne-style details, including a porch with a spindlework balustrade. keyhole window. Exploring the exterior is like visiting Walt Disney World for architecture buffs.
But inside is the place of action for paranormal enthusiasts.
All kinds of strange encounters have been experienced within its walls.
Shadow figures and wandering orbs have been reported.
Electronic voice recordings have been captured calling people’s names. At least three different contractors working inside the grand old building witnessed the statue of the girl.
So what or who is haunting this historic old house?
First, we need to explore the building’s history from the decade after the Civil War to the present day.
Crawford H. Booth, a Union Army officer in the War between the States, began construction in 1876 and completed it in 1880.
Booth went on to found Taylor National Bank and St. James Episcopal Church. He also donated 30 acres of land to the Taylor Fair Association. The Taylor Fair Association has become known as a popular horse racing track that attracts horse-drawn competitors from all over the United States. Daughter Bessie and her husband Rykergus Nelson continued the horse racing and training tradition.
Jonathan and Eunice Clark purchased the home in 1958 and stored it until 2018.
Under the ownership of the Clark family, the building became an integral part of Taylor’s social life in the early 1960s. At Taylor High School, school dances were often held in the southwest room on the first floor, which had ample floor space and a fireplace.
There were no appropriate facilities on the school grounds to do so.
Sherry Clark Nichols, the daughter of Jonathan and Eunice Clark, who lived in the house at the time, was spotted by a ghost in the house during a paranormal investigation conducted by Matt Cannon’s group, Truly Haunted. He talked about what he encountered.
“I remember frequently hearing footsteps moving from the kitchen to the dining room,” Nichols said. “If you go to investigate, you won’t find anyone. There have also been reports that three different groups of workers came into the house, knowing nothing about each other, and that they saw a little girl inside the house.” I can tell you, no one knows who this girl is, but everyone saw her.”
During Cannon’s 2019 home inspection, Nichols spoke of a sister who liked to hold seances at social gatherings. As she was talking about her brother, a distinctive knocking sound interrupted the interview. The noise seemed to be coming from the walls of the room.
Despite efforts to locate the source of the sound, nothing was found.

“When my sister Debbie and her friend were once playing cards in this ballroom, they both noticed a tall, thin shadow advancing over the wall behind them. There was no one there,” Nichols said.
Canon’s research yielded impressive results. Using a REM pod, a small device with an antenna with its own electromagnetic field that reacts when something approaches it, Cannon captured an alarm that sounded more than 10 times over several hours in the master bedroom. Canon’s fixed camera also recorded a bright, round “sphere” that appeared at the top of the stairwell, then hovered in the air and changed direction.
“Many videos of spheres can be explained by dust or insects,” Cannon said. “But in this case, the orb is very bright and moves in different directions.”
Cannon and his team, including Shelley Clark Nichols, recorded several recordings of disembodied voices and whispers during the investigation.
One of them could be heard saying, “Hello, Sherry.”
Cannon believes the spirits of several members of the Clark family, including Jonathan, Eunice, and Deborah, reside in the Crawford mansion. None of the spirits appear to have malicious intent. During conversations with investigators, the ghosts seemed to indicate that they were together and at peace.
