Barron Trump’s life has been shrouded in privacy. But now that he’s officially an adult and his father, former President Donald Trump, is running for president again, Barron Trump is back in the public eye.
The youngest Trump spent much of his childhood in Manhattan, waiting five months after his father’s inauguration to move into the White House. He has largely stayed out of the political spotlight until now, but attended his first campaign rally in July 2024.
Now officially an adult, the 18-year-old is a freshman at New York University’s Stern School of Business. He did not live on campus and spent his first day surrounded by Secret Service agents.
Here’s everything you need to know about Trump’s New York City upbringing, political involvement, and personal life.

Barron Trump’s White House and High School days
Trump was 9 years old when his father was elected president. It is common for a president’s immediate family to join the White House after the inauguration, but Trump and his mother broke tradition and waited five months before moving to Washington. During those months, Trump completed fifth grade at Columbia Grammar. During his last year at school, his entire class went to Washington, D.C., to meet the president.

Barron Trump’s political role
Although he was the only one of the siblings to live in the White House, the youngest Trump generally avoided political scrutiny during his time in Washington. He performed at several holiday events, including the annual Easter Egg Roll and the 2017 Thanksgiving Turkey Pardon.
But since his father left office, Trump has begun tiptoeing into the political arena. In May 2024, media outlets announced that he had been selected as an at-large delegate for Florida to the Republican National Convention. But just two days later, Melania Trump’s office announced that her son would not be attending, citing prior commitments. Other members of the Trump family were delegates from Florida.

While his father was president, the younger Trump dealt with online attacks, and his former firstborn children rushed to his defense. The attacks continued even after the Trump family left Washington, and in 2023, a woman sent a death threat to a then-high school student.

Trump appears to be close to his mother and is fluent in Slovenian, her native language. However, much of his personal life is unknown. He did not have a social media account until September 2024, but he created one on X (formerly known as Twitter) to attend an event about his father’s new cryptocurrency platform.
If Trump becomes a first-born child again, he could become the subject of even more public and political speculation.
