I want to do a lot of work, but I don’t know if I can do it because I’m so scared of needles and the pain. So I have no choice but to really try my best (skin care). . Also, I feel that 80% of skin is due to genetics and diet. Also, my parents (Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan) have great skin,” says Shweta of Mira Kapoor. He spoke on the YouTube series “Skin & Within.”
She further added, “I think the only thing they have in common is mustard oil. My mother eats a lot of fish and everything…and Bengalis use mustard oil. My father… They use it (mustard oil) on their face and body. They have never touched their faces (have had any beauty treatments or procedures) and are doing very well for being 81 and 76 years old. I think it’s my skin.”
We got in touch with Dr. Rinky Kapur, Consultant Dermatologist at The Aesthetic Clinic, to find out more about the benefits of mustard oil for the skin. “Mustard oil is believed to improve skin complexion, improve fine lines and improve skin elasticity,” she tells indianexpress.com, adding that some people believe that mustard oil promotes blood circulation. , added that she believes it can also help manage dark circles under the eyes.
Mustard oil also supports skin cell regeneration. “Many people use mustard oil to treat chapped lips and wrinkles,” says Dr. Kapur, highlighting its traditional uses. However, while these benefits sound promising, there is no substantial scientific evidence to support the claim that mustard oil directly contributes to achieving great skin.
“It’s important to remember that just because mustard oil is thought to be effective, it doesn’t mean it’s proven to be beneficial for your skin,” warns Dr. Kapur.
Should everyone use mustard oil?
While the list of believed benefits may sound appealing, Dr. Kapur urges caution. “It’s best for everyone to avoid using mustard oil on their skin. Following trends and viral posts on social media can be dangerous,” she says. Many home remedies, including mustard oil, have not undergone extensive research to prove their effectiveness or safety for skin care. Mustard oil may help some people, but its effects vary from person to person. Dr. Kapur emphasizes, “It’s not right to use oils without knowing how they will react on your skin.”
Additionally, mustard oil can cause side effects such as allergic reactions, irritation, burning, redness, and tingling. According to Dr. Kapur, these side effects make mustard oil a risky choice for regular skin care. “Using mustard oil on your skin can cause these problems, so it’s not worth taking any chances,” she advises.
