Joanna Gaines is a master of her craft. The TV personality, interior designer, and star of HGTV’s Fixer Upper is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to spatial design. Her recent renovation work. The midcentury modern masterpiece is perhaps her best renovation to date, with the kitchen being the star of the show.
The much-anticipated lake house renovation, a mid-century modern one-off designed by Magnolia’s dream team, the Gaines couple (husband-and-wife team Chip and Joanna), has been beautifully reimagined, giving an updated feel to this popular interior design trend. I did. It’s a place in Texas.

There’s so much to love about this kitchen. It also exemplifies how much Gaines has grown and evolved as a designer over the years. The starting color scheme is a master class.
The beauty of the Texas landscape surrounding the property and panoramic views of Lake Waco served as inspiration for the kitchen’s color scheme. In a touching moment from an episode of Fixer Upper: Lake House, Gaines is seen holding up a sample of the cherry tree used throughout the house against a background of trees in the garden. This is a match, she is pleased.
The exquisite color combination of sage green, beige and rich brown never goes out of style. “A biophilic color palette feels comforting and warm, especially in times of uncertainty. This palette evokes thoughts of foraging and nourishing, growing, reproducing, and life as a whole in nature. ” said Alice Hood, Senior Design Consultant at Roundhouse. “Even the most urban environments bring the outdoors in. Being surrounded by greens and browns in particular helps our nervous systems feel relaxed and calm, and in some cases helps us live longer. Please.”

Another fundamental aspect is the clever use of textural accents. Using texture in your interior design instantly improves the overall look and feel of your space. Simply put, without texture, a space would be flat. It is important to look at the room as a whole and group areas with mixed materials to give vibrancy and warmth. This is a way to add depth and dimension to the room, as well as provide comfort.
Gaines uses texture in the form of tactile objects such as wood and stone to add physical comfort and visual interest to the space. Mixing and layering materials is key to making textural elements work.
Tiffany Lee of Tiffany Lee Design agrees. “Texture in design is about creating tactile moments that make you want to touch them.” This refers to the feel, look, or consistency of a surface or material. Texture helps keep a space from feeling flat or one-dimensional. ”
Lastly, the rooms have a mid-century design, but don’t feel very themed. With its gentle tones and carefully curated collection of antiques and modernism, this handsome mid-century modern kitchen will soothe your soul.
