A tropical-themed bar has opened in the courtyard of the Austin Motel on South Congress Avenue. Rocky’s Bar, named after the hotel’s former mascot, a cat named Rocky, serves cocktails and shave ice from a walk-up window. Seating and shuffleboard are available in the courtyard.
Tikka House Indian Eatery
A new Indian restaurant is opening on South Lamar Boulevard in the former Elementary location. Owned by Shekhar Niraj, Tikka House serves North Indian and South Indian cuisine, as well as Indo-Chinese dishes such as paneer chili and Hakka noodles.

The mixed-use development will include a more than 57,000-square-foot athletic club, which will join restaurants Postino Wine Cafe and Paperboy, and The Bouldin apartment complex. Life Time offers a training and fitness space, Life Café restaurant, spa, and group classes. Construction is expected to begin later this year.
Day Maker Half Day Cafe
From the teams behind Jack Allen’s Kitchen and Salt Traders Coastal Cooking, Jack Gilmore and Tom Kamm have unveiled a new breakfast and brunch concept. The menu includes traditional brunch items like eggs Benedict and omelettes, while also catering to the fun Austin vibe, including hangover-curing breakfast burgers and big belly pastrami sandwiches.

The Austin bakery, cafe and deli is opening a location in Bouldin Creek, taking over the space that was previously a Foxtrot location. Owned by the McGuire Moorman Lambert Hospitality group, Swedish Hill offers pastries, sandwiches, salads and soups, coffee and more.

Austin’s famous honky-tonk dance hall will celebrate its 60th anniversary in November. Owned by the James M. White family, Broken Spoke has hosted numerous country music acts since opening in 1964, including Willie Nelson and George Strait. A birthday party will be held on November 9th, featuring performances by Alvin Crowe and other special guests.
Lions Municipal Golf Course
The Muny Conservancy and the Austin Founders Lions Club celebrated the 141-acre golf course’s 100th birthday with a parade and program to commemorate the milestone. Mayor Kirk Watson declared October 3rd Lions Many Golf Course Day in Austin. With permission from the University of Texas Board of Regents, AFLC cleared the land in November 1924 and constructed the first nine holes of the course.

Crux Climbing Center South
The store on the south side of Klux Climbing Center, off South Congress Avenue just north of Ben White Boulevard, is scheduled to close at the end of the year. Plans are already underway for a new location at 220 Ralph Abranedo Drive in Austin. However, the new facility is not expected to open until late 2025.
