Taiwanese technology giant Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) has taken the covers off two all-new electric vehicles at the 5th Hong Hai Tech Day (HHTD) on October 8th.
Expanding its automotive portfolio, the Foxtron Model D is a multipurpose lifestyle utility vehicle (LMUV) designed in collaboration with Italian styling house Pininfarina, while the Model U is a medium-sized electric bus aimed at urban mobility solutions.
The highly connected and aerodynamic Foxtron Model D is 5.13 meters long and 1.99 meters wide. Foxconn claims it achieves a range of over 410 miles/656 kilometers on a WLTP test cycle using 100-120kWh of lithium iron phosphate. (LFP) Battery.
The car’s platform is being developed by ZF Chassis Modules, of which Foxconn acquired a 50% share earlier this year.
Silvio Angoli, Chief Executive Officer of Pininfarina, said: “We are very proud to present this new model that embodies the best of Pininfarina’s design expertise and further strengthens our strategic cooperation with Foxconn.” he said. “For nearly 95 years, Pininfarina has been at the forefront of the convergence of art and technology, and this partnership with Foxconn represents a natural fit between our shared cultures of perfection and innovation. They excel in all aspects of their portfolio, and we are excited to be able to help them expand their electric vehicle lineup.”
Multifunctional hybrid model
Model D is based on the LMUV (Lifestyle Multipurpose Utility Vehicle) design concept and combines the advantages of the SUV and MPV segments. A multi-functional hybrid model equipped with an 800V powertrain and adopting Foxconn’s latest generation platform technology.
The inside of the Foxtron Model D is designed to take full advantage of other products manufactured by Foxconn. The six-seat version of the armchair has a charging pad that fits an iPhone, and each front seatback has a slot for an iPad.
Active suspension allows ride height adjustment from 15mm to 25mm. The body design incorporates specially designed S-ducts and air curtains to reduce wind resistance, resulting in a low drag coefficient of 0.23. Model D’ is the latest member of the electric vehicle family jointly developed by Foxconn and Pininfarina.
The collaboration between Foxconn and Pininfarina dates back to 2021 with the unveiling of the electric Model E, a luxury sedan equipped with cutting-edge technology. In 2022, Model B, a stylish urban crossover that combines beauty and high performance, will be released. All vehicles, including the new Model D, are meticulously crafted in Pininfarina’s ateliers in Cambiano, Italy. The Pininfarina team has a long tradition of building bespoke models, small series and prototypes for some of the world’s most famous automotive brands.
“Our design team has meticulously crafted the Model D from inside out, maintaining a sophisticated aerodynamic appearance while enhancing the interior. We focused on maximizing space.” “This approach provides superior visibility and a modern, athletic feel that appeals to today’s drivers. The Model D is a significant evolution from traditional SUVs, with a spacious cabin wrapped in a monolithic aerodynamic body. We are excited to work closely with Foxconn to build a cohesive family of electric vehicles that includes the Model E, Model B, and now the Model D.”
