My Foreo legend is deep. Aside from the now defunct (but iconic) Clarisonic version, the OG Foreo Luna Play was my companion in the mid-2010s. Everyone wanted a regular-sized or miniature Lunago. This and the aforementioned Clarisonic were my first foray into exfoliating tools. What did we really know about skin care back then? All I knew was that a $100+ product was gliding over my skin and I felt like an elite.
Fast forward to 2024. While the Clarisonic didn’t stand the test of time (#RIP), the Foreo continued to deliver great results. The brand still thrives at Sephora and Nordstrom, remaining true to its innovative origins as a leader in beauty technology.
I’ve been away from the Foreo game for a while, but when I learned that the Swedish brand had released a portable deep facial hydration tool that they billed as an “iron for wrinkles,” I knew I had to get my hands on it. Ta. . I tried (and love) Dr. Dennis Gross’ DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro, but hydration in particular is something I’m always after. Unsurprisingly, Foreo’s UFO 3 Deep Facial LED Hydration Treatment spoke to me.
Foreo UFO 3 Deep Facial Hydration Anti-Aging Device
To be honest, technological stuff freaks me out a bit. Anything that requires an app download makes me run for the hills. However, I was intrigued by the compact size of this product and was really charmed by its promise. It claims to increase skin hydration by 126% in just 2 minutes, making it more effective than sheet masks. It also says it’s clinically proven to reduce wrinkles in just one week. Now I have smart tool status.
Priced at $359, this bad boy comes with four unique mask types (H2Overdose Mask, Youth Junkie Mask, Manuka Honey Mask, and Acai Berry Mask) and six masks for each choice. Don’t be fooled by the high-tech design. It’s very easy to use. I downloaded the app, selected the settings I was comfortable with, and started using the H2Overdose mask. I attached it to my device (as seen here in this video) and voila! You’ll save at least 15 minutes from wearing a traditional sheet mask, and you won’t have to leave anything balancing on your face. All I did was slide the tool along my face for a few minutes. There was no pain or discomfort and my skin felt immediately moisturized.
It also features heating and massage options, as well as LED light therapy. The biggest draw for me, in addition to seeing immediate results, is the travel-sized convenience and user-friendly instructions. Consider this multifaceted tool simple enough for beginners to enjoy, yet advanced enough for experienced skin tool users to adopt. If you think this is far-fetched, the brand also just launched a 2-in-1 LED scalp massager. Does this mean I have to throw away my beloved Vegamour GRO Revitalizing Scalp massager?
With all this innovation, in 2013 I’m just hoping and waiting for the Clarisonic to make a comeback.
