MONROE, La. (KNOE) – Furry friends from across the region gathered at Anna Gray Noe Park on Sunday, Oct. 6, for the 111th Annual Pet Celebration.
Father James Dominic said the blessing was performed in honor of St. Francis, the patron saint of nature and animals, who believed that all animals should be treated with dignity and respect.
“It is customary to hold a blessing of pets on the Feast of St. Francis, especially in connection with St. Francis Medical Center, for which we are named after the word, so we celebrate October as Missionary Month .”
Father James has been blessing pets for over 20 years. He said he looks forward to caring for four-legged family members in the area each year.
“I meet their mental and emotional needs. Many patients and families cling to their pets to release tension and challenges.”
Lori Spangler, who adopted the puppy Rudy Graceblessed, said it’s great to see pets getting the special attention they deserve.
“I love my daughter and I am so happy to have her and God bless her. And my children lovingly carried her to the golden I call her child because she can’t do anything wrong in my eyes. But yeah, so I’m happy to be on the other side and have my blessings for my best girl. think.”
After the official blessing, the puppies headed off with their tails wagging and special treats.
