SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – As Hurricane Milton approaches Florida’s Gulf Coast, many Floridians are preparing for what could be a historic storm.
At least 51 counties in Florida are under a state of emergency as Hurricane Milton has upgraded to Category 5.
Travel warnings were issued ahead of the storm, according to the Georgia Department of Economic Development.
This alert will assist evacuees who plan to seek shelter in Georgia in the coming days.

The Georgia Department of Transportation is advising evacuees from Florida to call ahead if they are looking for resources in South Georgia, as resources are limited following Helen.
GDOT welcomes evacuees to Albany, Columbus, Macon, and Atlanta.
Some Georgia state parks are also open to RVs and campers as many people seek shelter from the storm.
