PRINCESS ANN, Md. – The Washington High School Fitness Center has undergone a major $50,000 upgrade, adding brand new weights, a multipurpose bench press, an advanced technology air bike, and more.
This project is made possible with support from WellPoint Maryland and the Impact Fitness Foundation, which aims to improve the quality of fitness for students.
“Thanks to the students, staff, and community who have access to this fitness center, this will benefit us for years and hopefully decades to come,” said Dr. Darrell Gray, WellPoint MD. said.
“Fitness spaces need to be motivating. When you walk into this room, you need to be excited and you need to be fired up to do the work that you actually need to do.” said Chris Welsh, President of Impact Fitness Foundation.
And that’s motivation. Head football coach Alec Mainzer believes it’s time to throw out the old and bring in the new, replacing tired, hand-me-down equipment with colorful, modern pieces to help motivate his students during training. I did. Revitalize the track and field club.
“We have a good athletic program and we have a program that is going to bounce back and build,” Mainzer said. “We hope that adding this will be a big step for all of our sports programs here to be even better.”
And Year 11 student Jason Elliott is looking forward to the students coming after him taking advantage of the new and improved facilities.
“We feel like this will be much more helpful than anyone realizes,” Elliott said. “The weights, the room, the improvements themselves, I feel like it’s going to bring everyone together.”
