Discovering handmade treasures while traveling around the world, from Italy to Morocco, became a lifelong passion for designer Barbara Fisher.
“The best part of traveling is discovery,” says the world traveler. One of her favorite finds is a handmade chunky lapis bracelet she discovered in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. “Some local artisans were selling their wares on the side of the road. There was nothing around them but the desert and the manufacturers selling their creations,” she says.
Fisher, who lives in Southold, has owned design business Barbara Fisher Interiors since 2017 and recently opened her first brick-and-mortar business.
Housed in a Victorian mansion, the Greenport Shop is both a design studio and an interiors shop, stocking home goods such as hand-woven wool rugs from Afghanistan and fashion accessories such as handmade hats from France.
When it came time to choose a location for her first store, Fisher knew she wanted a warm, inviting space with lots of sunlight. She and her husband Gary discovered this place during an anniversary trip to Greenport. “This gem of a Victorian mansion ticked all the boxes,” she added.

She describes the store as a “luxurious yet accessible showroom,” with prices ranging from $42 for a vase of buds to $8,000 for a hand-woven rug.
