BROCKWAY — A walking tour of Wildwood Cemetery will be held by historian Rob Keith and cemetery supervisor Ron Feldman on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 3 p.m. The cemetery is located at the end of Maple Street in Brockway.
If necessary, the event will be held rain or shine on Sunday, November 3rd from 2pm to 4pm.
Wildwood Cemetery was established in 1866 on 10 acres of land owned by Dr. and Mrs. Clark “in a depression south of Brockwayville along Currie Run” and deeded to the Wildwood Cemetery Association for $250.
The cemetery is now 158 years old and is the final resting place of the Brockway family, Moorheads, and many soldiers who served in the area during the Civil War. Over the years, many prominent families and ancestors from the area have been buried at Wildwood.
The Wildwood Cemetery Association needs funding to continue maintenance, chapel roofs, and new roads around and through the historic cemetery. In the future, the association hopes to hold historical walking tours and other events to help raise money for the cemetery. The public is invited to visit the graves of their ancestors, family and friends.
Fees given at the door will be donated to the cemetery fund. Free parking is available in Feldman’s large garden on the left before entering the cemetery. A brown bag lunch consisting of a hot dog with or without sauce, condiments, a bag of potato chips, a bottle of water, and a small candy bar will be provided at the chapel. This is also for donations. You can eat your bagged lunch in the chapel or take it out.
