COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – With less than a week until Election Day, some early voters are expressing frustration with the long political season. Many people say they’re tired of political ads.
Muscogee County is already seeing record numbers of voters heading to the polls early. Political ads seem to be everywhere, from television to radio to even text messages on cell phones.
“I text almost every day, about four or five times a day, and I text about four or five times a week,” said voter Alicia Washington.
And do you have that email in your mailbox? “I’m really appalled by the amount of junk mail and the amount of paper wasted,” said voter Thomas Gansevoort.
Most early voters we spoke to say it’s too much and that election fatigue could be a serious factor in this election, but they don’t like the continued advertising. I understand why.
“I don’t care because I know what they’re going to do,” said voter April Waldron.
“What’s at stake in this election? I understand what they’re trying to get out there. I’m going to vote. I’m going to participate to make sure my voice is heard. ” said voter Lela Harvey.
Waldron has made early voting a family event and said she is feeling a lot of emotions during this election period. “You know, there’s constant anxiety. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say the party line, but as a Democrat, I’m kind of cranking up the stress meter,” she said.
But experts say there are ways to deal with the flood of political rhetoric.
“Typical self-care routines that we all engage in include physical activity, participating in enjoyable activities, and ensuring that discussions with friends and family do not necessarily involve topics that are currently stressful. “, says a university psychology professor.
