COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — Patrons of Greenview Park on David Street in Columbia will now have access to a free outdoor gym.
City of Columbia and Prisma Health leaders announced the installation of four new “fitness courts” in local parks. This is a nationwide initiative launched by an organization known as the National Fitness Campaign.

The goal is to provide the public with free options to live a healthier lifestyle and reduce the risk of preventable diseases.
Stephen Venugopal, sports performance manager for Apex Athletic Performance at Prisma Health, said the equipment provides a series of push, pull, cardio, core and agility workouts for people of all ages and abilities. Masu.
“You literally could have an advanced athlete and a grandparent coming back from a knee replacement, and both can get an effective workout here,” Venugopal says.
Seniors who use Green View Park seem to agree.
“We seem to be able to do things without putting stress on our joints, which is key as we get older,” says Sandra Wilson.
Doris Hill joked, “I’m old enough. I was taught to move, and my mother told me to get up and move, and every morning she told me to get up and move.”
Venugopal showed ABC Columbia’s Lee Williams how some of the equipment works.
“They used the shape incredibly well, so if I want to do a lateral lunge, I have a high face and bank so that I can put my hips in and step out here…here “There are also different options for rowing and pulling, so we’re going to be at the most beginner level of rowing here, but here we’re going to be at the advanced level for pulling,” he says.
Tutorials are also available through the Fitness Court app.
A second station will be available at Finlay Park in the coming weeks, with two other fitness courts under construction as well.
