Chesney Terry, a mother of three from Texas and an avid DIYer, dressed her daughter in a s’mores costume last year. The “last minute” outfit became a hot topic on TikTok. Terry hand-painted real-looking chocolates on cardboard. The whole project took about 2 hours as it needed to be done for the next day’s event. “Honestly, I was a little humbled and surprised,” Terry, 32, tells PEOPLE.

Chesney Terry, an East Texas mother of three, made the costume last year for her daughter Noah Mae, now 3, after getting an overwhelming response on TikTok. , tells PEOPLE that she’s ready to give her followers another cool DIY treat.
“Honestly, I was a little humbled and surprised,” Terry, 32, tells PEOPLE. “I thought it was cute and I was proud.”
But Terry wasn’t ready for feedback from followers who praised her creativity and asked for recipes. So to speak.
“After I posted last year, before I had a lot of TikToks,” Terry says. “It got 30,000 views, it was shocking, it took everything by surprise.”

The idea to dress up her then 2-year-old daughter as the star of the campfire started when the Lindale resident couldn’t find any off-the-shelf costumes she liked during a “last minute” visit to a local store.
She came up with the idea to make a s’mores costume while at home on Pinterest. Fortunately, she didn’t have to look far for most of the material.
“I realized I needed a tutu, so I went to the store, but I already had everything else at home,” she says.
Terry hand-painted realistic looking chocolate squares on cardboard. The whole project took about 2 hours, which was perfect since we needed to work on it in preparation for the next day’s event.

“I feel like I’ve always been a little bit creative in my life, but I’ve never considered myself a professional,” the humble DIYer tells PEOPLE. “I just kind of fake it until I make it. Most of the time, people ask me how I do it and I’m like, ‘I really don’t know.’ I just start doing it and it somehow works. ”
And part of the key is to trust the process.
“The more you do it, the more you have to have a little bit of confidence,” she added. “Most of the time when you start something, it seems a little bad at first, and then you think, ‘Oh, no.’ But then you keep going, keep going, keep going, and you’re like, ‘Oh, I get it, this is it.’ I think it was actually okay. ”
The costume, completed last year, included a cardboard section attached around Noah May’s waist and a smaller section attached to the headband. Terry’s daughter, sandwiched in between, wore a white tutu and white top for a marshmallow effect.
And Terry’s flawless performance left her followers drooling.
“Please tell me how to make this. Please!” one commenter posted alongside a video of Noah May posing in the precious costume.

This Halloween, Terry will continue the dessert theme by dressing up her daughter as cotton candy.
Sadly, Terry says her older children, a 13-year-old daughter and a 7-year-old son, don’t share her brother’s love of dressing up as candy.
“As the kids get older, they don’t want to[dress up]as much,” she says. “So I’m going to enjoy this as much as I can.”
