The NEWH UK branch held its annual fundraising event with a roundtable to celebrate this year’s scholarship winners on 24th October at the Sea Containers Hotel in London.
The day began with a roundtable event hosted by Dornbracht. This year, more than eight industry experts shared their insights. This includes people such as: Massimo Barbera, Head of Design, Lupoi Design. Arun Rana, Design Director, AccorHotels. Carolyn Shenton, Studio Mica Director. Stefano Scuecco, General Manager of St. James Hotel & Club. Medhat Nehad Seada, visionary designer and founder of Archiform London Ltd. Sam Hall, IHG European Design Director. Holly Hallam, Managing Director of Design LSM, said: The event fostered innovative conversations about industry issues and gave attendees the opportunity to ask questions of their industry peers.
Kathryn Quinn, Managing Director of NEWH UK and Senior Designer at Goddard Littlefair summed up the afternoon perfectly. To come together. Industry leaders in hotel branding, operations, design, hospitality management, manufacturing, and education will gather for a series of discussions about the latest advances and challenges in the hospitality industry. They leave inspired and having made meaningful connections. ”
The roundtable session was followed by the much-anticipated annual fundraising event. After keeping this year’s winners a secret, NEWH UK is thrilled to be funding four student scholarships. This year’s Interior Design Scholarships were awarded to Sofia Calestre (Middlesex University), Sung Kee Lee (Northumbria University) and Pamela Sánchez-Rodriguez (Kingston College of Art). And for the first time, the NEWH UK branch is delighted to introduce a new Hospitality Management Scholarship awarded to Joanna Savage (University of Gloucestershire).

Kate Mitchell, NEWH UK Scholarship Chair and Timorous Beasties Commercial Leader, hosted the awards night and said: We are delighted to celebrate their success with everyone here tonight and would like to thank the judges and sponsors who made this event possible. The interior design judging panel was chaired by NEWH UK Scholarships Director Barbara Bischoff and included AccorHotels’ Arun Rana, Studio Lost’s Mohamed Mostakin, Space Magazine’s Emma Kennedy and Gessi’s Christian Piore, Maria Esquivel of Six Senses, and Chrissie Granger of Indigo Art and NEWH UK.
Each of the three interior design scholarship winners accepted their award and answered a few questions about NEWH and what the award means to them. Sophia Calestre said: “This event was a great experience connecting with so many experts and exploring different perspectives on the design industry. I’m so grateful to be a part of it!”
Song Kee Lee added: “This is a breakthrough and a huge step for the industry. The encouragement and insights shared by our experts have opened our eyes to future possibilities and filled us with excitement for what’s to come.” It was done.”
Pamela Sanchez said: I learned a lot from everyone who shared their experiences in the field. It gave me real insight into the hospitality industry. I will forever cherish this event and am so grateful to everyone who participated. ”
2024 is the first year that NEWH UK has awarded scholarships for hoteliers. The judges were Andrew Henning, area managing director of Highgate London and general manager of Grosvenor House Suites in Mayfair, and Anne Anne, vice president of UK and North America and general manager of Pan Pacific London. Joanna Savage, winner of the Hotelier of the Year Award, said: “It was an honor to be part of the NEWH fundraising and roundtable event. It was a great opportunity to hear from people in the industry. This is the first time the Hotel Management Scholarship has been awarded. I look forward to seeing how it develops in the future.”
