Ammar Bharat spent a year building this radio telescope. In the end, they were able to capture some very clear images of the galactic plane. Check out TikTok for a pretty comprehensive background and explanation. Of course, Ammar did it using a Raspberry Pi and Python.

The 1420 MHz emission from hydrogen resulting from hyperfine transitions is extremely important in radio astronomy for mapping galaxies and studying the interstellar medium due to its abundance. Detecting these weak signals requires a low noise floor and low noise temperature in the receiving system. Low-noise amplifiers (LNAs), especially those using GaAs FETs, are designed to effectively amplify weak hydrogen signals while minimizing their own noise. Therefore, effective noise management is essential to capture and analyze these important emissions.
