It’s been almost three years since we first saw the IONIQ 9 at the 2021 LA Auto Show three years ago.
It was called the SEVEN concept, but Hyundai has since confirmed that the larger electric SUV will be the IONIQ 9.
The product version will finally be released next month. Hyundai will officially announce its first three-row electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, at the 2024 LA Auto Show.
IONIQ 9 is the cornerstone of Hyundai’s plan to secure leadership in the North American EV market. As its debut nears, the large electric SUV has been spotted out in the wild several times, revealing its impressive size and bold design.
After new photos revealed a less camouflaged IONIQ 9 earlier this month, we now have our closest look at the new electric SUV.

New design elements have been revealed, including an LED light bar. You can also see that Hyundai has tweaked the design to give it a more sculptural look.

What to expect from the new electric SUV
The latest images from ShortsCar give us a closer look at the upcoming model. The Hyundai IONIQ 9 was spotted parked on a street in South Korea, revealing the SUV’s size and spacious interior.
From the side, the IONIQ 9 is much larger than Hyundai’s current IONIQ 5. Since it’s based on the same E-GMP platform, the IONIQ 9 is expected to be about the same size as Kia’s EV9 at 197.2 inches in overall length and 77.9 inches in height. Width ”, Height 70.1”, Wheelbase 122”. It’s about the same size as the Telluride.

Looking at the interior images, you can see that there is plenty of legroom in the second row. If that’s any indication, the Kia EV9 has over 42 inches of rear legroom, which is more than the Cadillac Escalade and Range Rover P40. It also has more headroom than the Tesla Model X.
Hyundai’s large SUV is expected to cost around $55,000, about the same or slightly more than the EV9. More expensive trims can cost upwards of $75,000 to $80,000.

Like the EV9, the IONIQ 9 is also expected to have a range of over 300 miles on a full charge. It will be built alongside Hyundai’s latest model, the 2025 IONIQ 5, at the new Metaplant America in Georgia.
Hyundai’s new IONIQ 5 has a longer range, a sleek new design, and a NACS port for charging with a Tesla Supercharger. Since it is a US-made model, it is likely to be installed in the IONIQ 9 as well.

New EVs manufactured at the facility will initially qualify for a partial tax credit of $3,750. But once the battery factory is up and running, Hyundai expects U.S.-made electric vehicles will also be eligible for the full $7,500 fee. Hyundai offers some of the most affordable and efficient EVs on the market and has already gained market share in the US.
Hyundai Motor Group, which includes Kia Motors and Genesis, sold more electric models in the U.S. in the first three months of 2024 than Ford or GM.
Hyundai fell behind GM in the third quarter as new models such as the Chevrolet Blazer and Equinox EV gained momentum, but the South Korean automaker expects sales to accelerate with local production.
With production starting in the U.S. and the rollout of the new 2025 IONIQ 5, and the larger IONIQ 9 set to go on sale later this year, Hyundai is betting big on the U.S. as a growth driver.
