A major interior renovation of the Mills Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Recycling Store has made it brighter, more comfortable and inviting.
New drywall, painting, updated electrical connections and new lighting were on the project list for work that began in the spring.
“Before there was no insulation, now there is insulation,” Auxiliary Member Dawn Garner said of one of the renovations made to the nearly 70-year-old building. The result is a cooler working and shopping environment during the warmer months and more stable temperatures during the colder months.
One aspect of the interior that hasn’t changed is the flooring, but the new clothing display layout has made the aisles wider and the floor more visible. It has also been extensively cleaned.
“People have commented that we have a new floor, but we don’t,” Garner said. “It’s just that we can see more now.”
New shelves have also been installed around the inner perimeter in place of trash cans.
Garner made the comments at a private event held Oct. 18 to point out areas for improvement.
Larissa Terwick, another auxiliary member, told the gathering that a lot of planning had gone into the renovations among the volunteers and they had been in close contact with the contractors.
“It was a real challenge to figure out what to do and do it well,” she said.
The auxiliary recently celebrated its 75th anniversary in the community. Proceeds will be used to support the purchase of hospital equipment.
