Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black is another instant hit for Netflix as part of a collaboration between the writer, director, actors and streamer. However, the new series continues the trend of horrible critical reviews and love-hate audience reactions to Perry’s exclusive releases on the platform. Netflix had previously come under fire for its long-term deal with Perry from fans of a number of well-received shows that were canceled due to the “garbage” the writer developed.
Tyler Perry has been on quite a roller coaster ride with Netflix since signing his big deal in 2023. The deal was for Perry to distribute eight films over four years. Shortly after, he confessed in an interview that he had no idea. what was he trying to do? Along with these films, including ‘Mea Kalpa’, which is currently scheduled for release in 2024, ‘Beauty in Black’ is likely to prove that the release of his TV series is one that will draw a huge audience. However, it has proven that it is not always a crowd pleaser.
“Beauty in Black” has a synopsis: “A stripper’s fortunes change when she meets a wealthy, dysfunctional family behind a cosmetics dynasty and a sinister human trafficking scheme.” Most critics don’t bother to review Perry’s Netflix TV shows, but that’s once again the case for his new series. However, the two reviews posted on Rotten Tomatoes aren’t exactly glowing.
Is Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black worth watching on Netflix?
According to reviews by two critics of the show, the simple answer is no. While one review on LeisureByte.com notes that Perry’s show is more concerned with delivering plenty of swearing and nudity than developing emotional stories about intertwined characters, , another review of Ready Steady Cut says that since Perry’s success with the Madea series, he’s “trying to tell him something like ‘Beauty in Black’ is a terrible idea.” He was intentionally isolated from other people.”
Apparently, with the series topping the Netflix TV charts, Perry has once again qualified, giving the streamer another successful project. In that regard, the thoughts and opinions of critics mean little. But viewers seem to be divided on whether Beauty in Black is the best TV show of all time or the worst.
Sonia A., a Rotten Tomatoes viewer reviewer, said: This was complete garbage. His films tend to have women degraded by men, but this was taken too far. ” Another comment from Charlotte A echoed this sentiment, adding:
“This is simply a very poor version of the series that makes me sick just watching it. Totally no talent, really amateurish acting and predictable plot lines. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a show this bad. is.”

Here’s why Tyler Perry needs to cut back on his film and TV production following ‘Black in the Black.’
The series has some positive reviews, but some of that praise is questionable. There are those in particular who praise the show as another great Perry sitcom. One of the more honest reviews by JayAnne L. proves that Perry’s love for over-the-top drama is there. The review says:
“I really enjoyed the show. I watched all 8 episodes in one day! It was fun, I was on my toes and I’m living for this show. Tyler did a great job with this! I can’t wait for part 2!”
Despite all this, the eight episodes released so far are only the first half of the series, with eight more episodes still to air. This is great news for anyone who found something enjoyable in Beauty in Black. For others, there are other things to focus on.
