I am dedicated to leveling up in all areas of my life. I’m always thinking about how I can improve mentally, physically, and emotionally. And now, by the end of the year, I want to change and grow. So when I came across the “October Theory” trend, I was immediately intrigued.
As October 1 approaches, many people realize it’s the start of the fourth quarter and want to end the year on a positive note. This is where the October theory comes into play.
What is October Theory?
The October Theory is a TikTok trend shared by TikToker Macy Morgan. This theory suggests that as the holidays approach, people should refocus, set goals, and get their lives back on track while preparing to see family in November and December. If you adopt this mindset and think of October as your “second” New Year, you can use your holiday events to share positive news about work, school, and life.
Fall can bring on a variety of emotions, one of which is “fall anxiety,” which is commonly associated with seasonal depression. One of the ways people are starting to take advantage of this “downtime” is by spending most of their days at home, but using fall to switch things up and make meaningful changes to their overall health.
Lifestyle changes include exercising, planning your finances, and considering or making a career change.
I first heard about the October Theory when a colleague shared this article with me. This reminded me of another TikTok trend called “Winter Ark” shared by TikToker Carly Berges. This trend also started on October 1st and was created with the same purpose: to help people focus on their goals, personal development, and growth.
While the winter arc lasts through the winter season, October theory focuses on using October to prepare for the rest of the year. Both concepts are trending now that the end of the year is fast approaching. So how can you take advantage of these trends and make some changes before the new year?
How to apply October theory
I don’t know about you, but incorporating both trends into your home this fall makes perfect sense and will definitely help you achieve your New Year’s resolutions without any distractions. Here are five tips on how to incorporate them into your living space.
organize your space
Just as the leaves of a tree fall off, so do humans. Autumn is the perfect time to declutter your home. A tidy environment makes a huge difference and can lead to a clearer mind and improved overall mental health.
create a cozy atmosphere
Add cozy elements to your home like warm blankets, soft sheets, and scented candles. These small but powerful touches make a big difference and foster a sense of comfort during the cooler months.
Incorporate seasonal decorations
Embrace the beauty of the changing seasons by incorporating seasonal decor into your home. Items like pumpkins, leaves, and themed pillows can make a big difference. These create a welcoming atmosphere that can lead to gratitude and reflection.
establish new family habits
If you complete October Theory or Winter Edition in other regions, you will need to create a new routine. This is a great opportunity to establish a new daily or weekly routine in your home. This will give it structure and allow it to thrive in all areas of your home.
make seasonal recipes
Fall is the perfect season to discover new recipes. Consider experimenting with seasonal ingredients like squash, apples, and cinnamon. Cooking is therapeutic and a great way to enjoy the new season.
This weekend I’m going to take some time for myself and implement some of these tips into my home. I’m looking forward to trying out these trends and seeing how they translate into all areas of home life.
