The first season of Tyler Perry’s new Netflix series Beauty in Black was released on October 24, 2024, but if you’re planning on watching the movie, you better prepare yourself for the headaches ahead. That’s fine. As usual, Tyler Perry has written characters for the new series that are representative of women in the black community, but the excessive swearing and sexual scenes add nothing to the overall plot of the series and are , through which it does not make sitting comfortable. In this article, we’ll go into more detail about the movie and why Beauty in Black was a complete flop for us.
Beauty in Black Review: Series Overview
Beauty in Black is an American television series based on the story of a stripper whose fate changes when she crosses paths with the CEO of a cosmetics company. The film was written and directed by actor and filmmaker Tyler Perry, who is known for creating stories about representatives of the black community and rose to fame after the Media series of films. Ta. The film features a star-studded cast including Crystal Stewart, Taylor Polidor Williams, Amber Lane Smith, Rico Ross, Stephen G. Norfleet, Julianne Houghton, Terrell Carter, Richard Lawson, and Debbie Morgan. A star cast is appearing. (The all-star cast may be the only good thing about this series.) The first season of the series will have eight episodes, with part two set to be released next spring. The series’ producers include Tyler Perry himself, as well as Angelique Bones and Tony Strickland.

‘Beauty in Black’ review: Why it faced criticism
Tyler Perry has made some great films that represent the black community, but this wasn’t the only one. All of his movies, in one way or another, center around women being tortured or abused, and honestly, they’re very hard to watch and understand. It doesn’t even leave you with the impression, “Oh, this tortured black woman has broken out of the cycle of sex work and emerged stronger and braver!” It feels and rather depicts the general idea of what the worst a woman can experience in the world, and it does so in a very upsetting way as well. Here are the main reasons I don’t particularly like about this series.
Porn: Well, Tyler isn’t known for making very decent movies, but the level of porn in this particular series was just too much and deeply disturbing. The first episode of the series showed women exposing themselves to the men around them in a strip club, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We also see Kimmy, the main character of the series, being raped by a VIP named John, Mallory’s husband. Bad Direction: Even the series’ stellar cast couldn’t save it from ruin, and it felt like the actors’ potential was wasted. If they had better direction, the series might have managed to get through. Verbal Abuse: Throughout the series’ eight episodes, the only well-played emotion on screen was when Kimmy cried on her way to another session with one of her clients. Other than that, all we saw were characters shouting and swearing at each other in conversation. Even Mallory, who appears brave on the outside, is seen as equally abusive behind the scenes.

conclusion
Overall, we can conclude that Tyler Perry’s Beauty in Black failed to convey the vibe of female empowerment that was the main objective of the entire series. The series became so conventional and sensational that it actually disappointed rather than impressed viewers. Yes, we need more black representation in Hollywood, but we definitely need better directors than this.
