Beyoncé made a rare political appearance at a presidential campaign rally, hugging Kamala Harris and telling voters “we need to sing a new song.”
Although she did not perform, unlike in 2016, when she sang at Hillary Clinton’s rally in Cleveland, Harris said her Republican rival for the White House hopes to see further violations of women’s rights. As warned, she gave a speech.
“I’m not here as a celebrity. I’m not here as a politician. I’m here as a mother,” Beyoncé told a crowd in Houston, Texas.
“A mother who cares deeply about the world that my children and all of our children live in, a world in which we have full control over our bodies, a world in which we are not divided.”
“Imagine our daughters growing up seeing what’s possible with no ceilings or limits,” the American singer continued. “We have to vote, and we need you.”
Beyoncé took to the stage with her Destiny’s Child bandmate Kelly Rowland to introduce Democratic candidate Harris as the “next president of the United States.”
Houston is Beyoncé’s hometown, and Harris’ presidential campaign first used the music in July, selecting “Freedom,” from Beyoncé’s 2016 album “Lemonade,” as its national anthem.
Beyoncé gave Vice President Harris permission to use the song, which samples two recordings by John Lomax and Alan Lomax that document America’s history of racism.

The rally was held in Texas to highlight the growing medical impact of Texas’ strict abortion ban. Abortion is illegal in almost all cases, except when the mother’s life is in danger.
However, the ambiguity in the way the law is written means that harmful pregnancies are not expressly exempted. As a result, the state’s infant mortality rate has increased, with more infants dying from birth defects and maternal mortality rates rising.
Harris’s rally was also attended by women who had nearly died from pregnancy complications. In some states, doctors can face criminal charges if they provide medical care to a woman whose life is in danger.

“If you’re watching from another state, you’re not voting for Trump because you live in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Nevada, New York, California, or a state where voters and legislators have protected reproductive freedom. If you think you’re protected from abortion bans, know this: No one is,” Harris warned.
“Because Donald Trump’s national ban would make abortion illegal in every state.”

Trump has been inconsistent in his messaging on abortion and reproductive rights, but has repeatedly said he would veto a nationwide ban.
He also visited Texas on Friday and said a victory would break the record for the number of people expelled from the United States.
