Patrick Mahomes, the famous Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, recently spoke about his heartfelt bond with his daughter Starling in an interview with NFL’s Tom Brady on FOX. Mahomes revealed a softer side of himself and emphasized how becoming a father has changed him in ways he didn’t expect. He shared insight into his own experience of becoming a father and the emotional journey he took to become a father.
“As a kid, I always wanted to have a boy first so he could grow up in the clubhouse and be surrounded by the sport that I love,” Mahomes said. “But when Sterling came along, it was like God knew what I needed. Having my daughter has made me grow and mature as a person in ways I never expected.” There’s a different kind of bond because you feel an overwhelming need to protect.’
Reflecting on having a daughter, Mahomes emphasized his determination to spend quality time with his daughter, Sterling, despite his busy schedule that includes coaching the Chiefs and off-field responsibilities. “The NFL years go by so quickly, but I want to cherish every moment with my kids,” he said. “I’m not old yet, but I want them to watch me play and understand what I do.”
Mahomes shared his strategies for balancing his busy schedule and home life, highlighting the challenges he faces during the NFL season, but finding ways to make his time at home worthwhile. “The important thing is to be there when I’m there. Even if I’m away from home a lot, I try to make sure that when I’m with my kids it’s quality time,” he says. I did. “That’s something I’ve really grown to appreciate.”
Mahomes’ football career is going well, but his role as a father is just as important. Becoming a father has given him a new sense of purpose and perspective beyond his field. “It was a learning experience, but it was great,” Mahomes said. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
