This year has been full of ups and downs for the Bucknell football team. The Bison had back-to-back wins over Marist (34-18) and Lehigh (38-35 in overtime), but the streak ended with two straight losses to Penn (31-21) and Cornell (34-21). Let’s get into today’s game.
Coach Bucknell will try to avoid falling into a three-game slide as the Bison head to Georgetown today for a 2 p.m.
Cornell put Bucknell in a big hole early last week, trailing 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. Bucknell scored two touchdowns in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 27-14 going into the half, but that was probably the closest Bucknell came to fighting back.
Michael Hardiway caught 39 passes for 21 yards, throwing for 214 yards and two touchdowns, and Tarik Thomas ran for 94 yards, averaging 10.4 yards on nine attempts. Defensively, Bucknell picked off Jameson Wang twice and recorded a sack.
Thomas has rushed for 357 yards this year and Paul Neal has rushed for 200 yards. Both backs also averaged 4.4 yards per carry.
Ralph Rucker IV has thrown for 1,266 yards, 11 touchdowns, and only four interceptions through six games.
Defensively, Bucknell has a lot of playmakers. Gavin Willis had a team-high 71 tackles, John Schlendorff had 54 tackles and Nick Hoying had 53 tackles. Terrien Williams also recorded 42 tackles.
Georgetown enters Saturday with a 4-3 record after losing 38-28 on the road to Colgate last week. Colgate pulled away in the second half and defeated Georgetown 24-14 in the final two quarters to seal the victory. Georgetown’s winning streak ended at two with last week’s loss, but the Hoyas defeated Columbia 20-17 in a close game and defeated Lafayette 17-0 on the road.
In the Hoyas’ loss, Danny Lauter threw for 272 yards and Savion Hurt ran for 84 yards.
Georgetown’s run game hasn’t posed much of a threat so far, as Nareem Carney has only 269 rushing yards this year, averaging 59.2 yards per game. The run game wasn’t dominant, but the passing game played well. Lauter threw for 1,518 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 216.86 yards per game.
