LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) – After four years of searching and praying, a southwest Louisiana woman has been reunited with her dog.
Rachel Walker, who lives in the Sulfur area, said her beagle, Clover, lost her dog while her family was cleaning up after Hurricane Delta in 2020.
“We’ve seen it many times,” she said. “It was devastating.”
Walker said her family just assumed someone had adopted Clover.
Four years later, a veterinarian at Lake Area Animal Hospital picked up a stray dog on the street.
“I noticed she was limping and I said to my boyfriend, ‘Oh my god, I can’t leave her alone.’ So the next day I brought her here and she was found to have a microchip. We checked to see if they were there,” Macy Welch explained.
In fact, Clover had a microchip that revealed Walker’s contact information.
Walker said she didn’t believe it was true at first.
“It’s really crazy to have the dog back. I missed her so much, you have no idea,” Walker said.
She said at first she thought it was too good to be true. (kplc)
Welch said she was happy to be able to bring Clover back to her family after being away for so long.
“It felt great,” Welch said. “It was an honor to be a part of it, but as I told the woman, ‘It was all because of God. It was like I was just a tool.'”
Veterinarian Dr. Caitlin Briscoe emphasizes the importance of microchipping your pet.
“Honestly, you never know when something like that will happen,” Briscoe said. “Maybe they left the door open for a little while and they slipped off. Or, especially during holidays, we often see people get scared and run away from things like fireworks. So thanks to the microchip, we can have a happy reunion.” It’s nice to see it happen.”
Briscoe says this is a simple step that could bring her missing best friend home.
