At this point, we’ve all accepted the reality that it “takes a village” when it comes to raising children, but for single parents, the village is even more important. One TikTok single mom, Kelsey Will (who posts as @kelseywont (smart)), shared her “best life hack ever” for being a single mom: living with a single dad.
Will explains that she lives in a duplex with her single father. Although there is no shared living space, the homes are connected, giving you “all the benefits of being roommates without actually being roommates.”
“We’re like the best friends in a built-in neighborhood,” she says. “If either of us needs anything, the other one is right there.”
From borrowing things from each other to doing chores for each other (“He likes to do ‘houseman’ things, so he doesn’t like taking the trash can out to the street or backing up the driveway”). They always have their backs to each other when buying fast food dinners.
Of course, this also applies to parenting issues.
“One morning, he had a daughter, and it was photo day at her school, and she didn’t know how to do her hair,” she recalls. ”
While their relationship is obviously adorable, it could fall into TMI’s “old couple” level. “Yesterday he came up for two seconds and asked me to pop a pimple on his neck with a safety pin,” she laughed. “Our friendship really has no boundaries.”
Of course, we know what you’re thinking at this point, and so does Will.
“It’s strictly platonic,” she clarifies. “There’s no romance involved…but if it were, it would definitely be a really BookTok-worthy storyline.”
We are all here for this. (Are we secretly hoping for BooktTok? Absolutely.) And so were the people in Will’s comments.
“I’m waiting for Hallmark to pick this up!” one gushed.
“I’m waiting for an update in 10 years,” agreed another. “‘Now that the kids have left home, we love each other…'”
Some not-so-single mothers thought this was a great idea.
One person joked, “My husband and I need a duplex.”
But overall, people were very supportive of the health of this content.
“I love seeing humans just take care of each other,” one commenter wrote. “I swear it’s literally the worst part of my life.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
