Cindy Brady actor Susan Olsen recently spoke on the podcast Walk Away Campaign (via Vanity Fair) about her support for Donald Trump and about issues such as the coronavirus vaccine and vaccinations. She claimed that CBS ruined the revival of “The Brady Bunch” because of her controversial stances on important issues. The LGBTQ+ community — but that’s not all, insiders note. First, the show was set at CBS Studios and hadn’t even been pitched to a network or streamer yet. More importantly, sources point out that the show was axed due to hate speech, including homophobic slurs, for which Olsen was previously fired from the radio show.
Brady’s latest project was considered two years ago, but it’s unclear if a script was even written. The project never made it past its early stages, as Olsen’s actions impeded its progress. The series would have embraced the Brady Bunch kids as adults. Brady’s youngest daughter Cindy, played by Olsen, was set to become a libertarian podcaster, the actor revealed.
“I was on the phone with my (TV) brother and my agent,” Olsen said on the podcast. “Everyone was saying, ‘Sorry, they don’t budge.’ They’re not going to let you be a part of this. It was like, ‘Wow, it’s been canceled.’ It’s a role I’ve played for over 50 years, but I can’t play it now because it’s too dangerous. I said, “Well, guys, good luck. I hope it sells.” I was like, “I hope it sells.” ”
CBS Studios declined to comment. According to Olsen, she had been in negotiations for about a year to revive “The Brady Bunch.” She was reportedly asked about her political views by the revival’s showrunner, the son of original Brady Bunch creator Sherwood Schwartz, during the show’s early stages. The actor was previously fired from the radio show Two Chicks Talkin’ Politics in 2016 for sharing anti-LGBTQ views on social media. She reportedly then responded to the guest (who criticized her on social media) with a text message filled with slurs and hate speech.
Olsen played Cindy Brady in all episodes of The Brady Bunch, which aired from 1969 to 1974. She also appeared in the animated spin-off The Brady Kids, 1976’s The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, and 1981’s The Brady Bunch Variety Hour. the TV movies “The Brady Girls Get Wedding” and 1990’s “The Bradys.”
According to a summary of Olsen’s interview with Vanity Fair magazine, “According to Olsen, the revival will thrust the Brady Bunch family into the modern day. One of Jean’s children will be transgender, and the Brady One of the family members was going to have a black mate. Perhaps understandably, this didn’t sit well with Olsen. I said, “Hey, let’s not be so obvious.” ” I thought. Let’s make this black spouse someone who has a very close relationship with another Brady. And that’s how this Brady met them. Give them a platform so this doesn’t become a token position. ”
Olsen went on to say that the “Brady Bunch” revival series is currently “dead.” Listen to the actor’s full interview on the “Walk Away Campaign” podcast here.
