Tiptop Audio and Buchla 259t Programmable Complex Waveform Generator Module
The good folks at TipTop Audio have done a godly job of converting Don Buchla’s wonderful 200 series modules to Eurorack format and bringing the price down to a much cheaper, if not downright affordable price point. Ta. The latest 3U products are the long-awaited Tiptop Audio and the Buchla 259t, a programmable complex waveform generator module.

Based on Don’s 1978 259 Complex Oscillator, the Tiptop Audio and Buchla 259t have two oscillators, modulation and principal, each with multiple outputs. The modulation oscillator has a fixed triangle waveform and a toggle-selectable output, and can be configured as a triangle, square, or sawtooth wave. It can also be used as an LFO or audio rate oscillator. The main oscillator, on the other hand, has three audio outputs, including a fixed sine wave, a fixed square wave and a final output, which provides complex waveforms thanks to the timbre and harmonic sections.
Tiptop Audio and Buchla 259t will retail for $529.
Erica Synth EDU DIY BBD
The latest module in Erica Synths’ educational DIY kit series is the EDU DIY BBD, a digital delay unit equipped with a BBD chip. BBD, of course, stands for bucket brigade delay, named for the way a digital sample of the source audio passes through a chain of transistors and capacitors inside the chip.

The EDU DIY BBD features time, feedback, dry/wet knobs, long-range and short-range switches, as well as CV control over time.
You need to assemble the module yourself, which requires soldering. But Erica Synths is hoping to learn something about analog synthesizer circuits in the process: Instead, we want to walk you through the circuit design process step-by-step, explaining every choice we made and how it affects the finished module. ”
Very affordable at 70 euros including both Eurorack module and BBD delay. For more information, please visit the Erica Synths site (link below).
Minimum audio current 2.0
You may remember the ill-fated subscription-only launch of Minimal Audio and their wavetable software synthesizer Current. Minimal Audio eventually pushed its pricing and offered alternative purchasing schemes such as one-time purchases and all-access subscriptions with monthly store credits. It’s a shame that Current started off with such a tarnished name, given that it’s a powerful modern soft synth in its own right.

Minimal Audio has upgraded Current to version 2.0, adding a new interactive XY pad and enhanced browsing of factory presets and optional stream sound add-ons. Wave Shifter, the company’s frequency-shifting effect plug-in, is also now part of the package.
The current regular price for 2.0 is $199, but for a limited time it’s on sale for $99. This is a free update for existing users.

This is the benefit of algorithms. While checking out the latest synthfluencer videos on YouTube the other day, I came across this lovely little concoction made by foleytronics fx Repair. This is a Sequential Circuits Prophet-5 Rev 2 run with a Lexicon 224 and a Schulte Compact Phasing ‘A’, a so-called Krautrock phaser. It’s a match made in heaven.
