With a presidential election right around the corner, having all your family and friends in the same room can be a dangerous situation.
Some soon-to-be newlyweds are taking precautions, such as enforcing a ban on alcohol at weddings, to prevent escalating political debates.
The New York Times reported that one Illinois couple, Katie Newell and Elijah Galinger, planned to get married on Election Day because it was one of the few days that worked out for their loved ones.

The couple expressed concern that this would prevent people from voting or become distracted by incoming news.

But their biggest concern was the potential headbutt as the vote progressed. So they decided to stop serving alcohol.
“We thought it might be a good idea to keep fluid truth from flowing through people’s veins on Election Day,” Newell told the Times.

On Tuesday’s episode of “The Five,” co-host Judge Jeanine Pirro commented that if it were her wedding day, “I would never do that.”
“They’re doing it to save money,” she said. “That’s just an excuse.”

“If people are going to fight about politics, they’re going to blame each other anyway, whether there’s alcohol or not.”
Instead, Pirro advised couples not to invite guests who might start a fight.

Co-host Dana Perino suggested elopement as an alternative to marriage so close to the election.

But co-host Jesse Watters agreed there was no need for him to drink if he was getting married this October.
“If people are going to fight about politics, whether they’re drinking or not, they’re going to just blame each other,” Pirro said on “The Five.” (St. Petersburg)
“Because my mother was after drinking a martini…no amount of Secret Service could protect[members of the Trump family]from my mother after drinking,” he said.
Massachusetts couple Shannon Hendrickson and Drew Fitzmaurice are getting married just before the Nov. 2 election.

They told the Times that instead of banning alcohol, they would post signs warning guests they were in a “no-politics zone.”
“I’m going to say publicly that this is not a day to talk about elections,” Hendrickson said. “You can do that tomorrow.”
