RAPIDS CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – Halloween is just a few days away. Treats are available, but you don’t need to have any special tricks to keep your pet safe and happy.
Halloween brings a lot of activity into the home and lots of costumed visitors, which can be scary and stressful for pets.
Not only do pets need a separate area away from the action, but so do candy.
Many Halloween treats, such as chocolate and artificial sweeteners, are toxic to pets, so keep candy in a safe place out of your pet’s reach.
Caitlin Ausman Wynn, community development manager for the Black Hills Humane Society, says it’s important to have a solid plan for your fur baby around the holidays.
“Our Halloween candy contains a lot of toxins. It contains nuts and chocolate. Many of them can be very dangerous to pets if ingested, so store them in a safe place. Keep it and be sure to check on it and talk to your pet often,” Ousmanwin said.
Due to the constant flow of visitors, Ousman Win also encourages pets that may run away to be microchipped.
