Celebrity parents are just like our parents.
In a rare candid new interview with The Times, Eva Mendes talks about leaving her acting career behind, her future goals, and the most precious part of her life: her family with Ryan Gosling.
When talking about raising their two daughters Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8, the Hitch star admitted that he and Gosling are strict and very present parents.
“Putting my child on the Internet and saying, “Oh, search for something,” to me is the same as saying to her, “Oh, go down the street in the middle of the night.” It’s okay,” Mendez said. “It may sound extreme, but that’s how I feel.”
As a result, the girls who are being homeschooled are not allowed to use smartphones or social media at home.

Mendez also said she and Gosling talk to their children about how they grew up with little money and regularly ask them to help with tasks around the house. Mendes said it’s very important to her and the La La Land actor to help children understand their level of privilege.
“I explained to them what I didn’t have, what I didn’t have when Ryan was little, how hard we had to work, the dark days of living paycheck to paycheck. But they never understand. You don’t know until you experience it,” Mendez said.
Gosling and Mendes first met in August 2011 while filming The Place Beyond the Pines. They started dating soon after and have been together ever since. Although the pair have kept their relationship and family life largely private, Mendes told the Times that Gosling is the reason he made him feel great at age 50. “My husband’s view of me is just… sometimes I think, oh my gosh. It may not sit well with people, but a lot of how I feel is a reflection of what he has given me. I am.”
