SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – “Daytripper” is an award-winning Texas travel show where host Chet Garner takes viewers to towns across the Lone Star State to explore hot spots. and introduce hidden gems.
And this weekend’s episode features some familiar faces.
“This is a great opportunity for Denison to showcase our town to the entire state of Texas and beyond,” said Rachel Reinert, Denison Tourism Manager.
Garner and his team visited Denison this summer, soaking up the sun on Lake Texoma, trying out some of the local restaurants, and sampling spirits at Denison Distillery.
“We brought him here to show him how we do all the processes of whiskey making, distillation, aging and blending,” said Josh Golladay of Denison-based Ironroot Republic Distillery. I explained it,” he said. “We got to take him back to the barrel warehouse and enjoy some fresh-from-the-barrel fun with him.”
And Golladay said bourbon may have brought the “day tripper” to Denison.
“One of the owners and I went to Mr. Garner’s office in Georgetown a few years ago and dropped a bottle off,” he said. “I think it’s finally paying off.”
“Daytripper” has many fans and is watched by hundreds of thousands of viewers.
Golladay said the assistance should bring business to his own backyard.
“Just the exposure of being featured on his show is great for us and should bring people to the area,” he said. “Garner was very interested in showcasing the various local businesses and all of the natural beauty that surrounds us.”
Reinert agreed, saying she’s looking forward to the new “day trippers” the show will bring to the city.
“We are excited to bring more tourists and visitors to Denison and encourage more people to come to our businesses, shop and experience our town. I’m excited,” she said.
The episode will air on PBS stations on Saturday and will be available on YouTube’s “Daytripper” page on Monday.
