Halloween is approaching, so it’s time to start planning your costumes. Some people choose a more conceptual or meme-ified look, but you can’t go wrong with a more traditional cat, witch, or clown. So this year, instead of thinking about how to explain to the people at your party that you’re participating in Bisexual Awareness Week, why not steal something furry from FKA Twigs’ cat-themed celebration? Please lean towards that side. Like Alexa Demy.
Whether you’re looking for your next look or want to see what’s been done before, we’ve gathered five shots from the Dazed Beauty archives for inspiration for alternative Halloween costumes.
11 images of FKA Twigs’ cat-themed birthday party
Sometimes things are classic for a reason, like a good old cat costume. Back in 2020, pre-Eusexua, post-MAGDALENE FKA Twigs hosted a festive cat-themed birthday party, and her guests did not disappoint.
Created by MAC’s Rachel O’Donnell, Beat the Cat takes inspiration from the original look from the ’80s stage version of Cats. Get inspired by Twigs’ guests who put their own spin on the typical cat costume by playing with hair color, latex masks, and wild eyebrows. “I think it would be fun to have 100 adults dress up as cats,” Twigs says of the inspiration behind the theme.
Gabrielette pays tribute to Vivienne Westwood22 images
It’s hard to do justice to an icon, but Gabrielette did just that in this Vivienne Westwood-inspired shoot. Makeup artist Jez Hill, hairstylist Eric Williams, and nail artist Juan Alvear teamed up to pay homage to the icon’s most famous looks.
This included Fall/Winter 2089’s famously bold Harlequin look, achieved with pale skin, sky-like beehives, and sharp eyebrows. If you want to try it out for yourself, incorporate a red ombré lip and Nina Hagen-esque blush into your routine. If you want to go even further, try pairing your nails with Vivian’s signature tartan check pattern.
Alexa Demy by Bunny Kinney9 Images
A moment may have passed for euphoric makeup, but hit series star Alexa Demy is still wowing us. Revisit her special Dazed Beauty cover shoot for inspiration for your gothic witch look. Shrouded in fog and sporting a variety of Halloween-inspired looks, Demy wears black claw-like nails and gothic black eyeshadow.
A pale face, dead straight hair, and blood red lips are essential. Samurai sword, optional.
Halloween by Frances O’Sullivan6 Images
Vintage horror with a beautiful twist. Inspired by classic Hollywood horror films, director, artist and Halloween celebrity Frances O’Sullivan’s annual look is a chilling homage to the genre’s iconic villains. The gallery displays everything from exaggerated bloody wounds to ghostly pale skin.
An authentic mermaid story may be a stretch, but take inspiration from the mix of beauty and gore. To recreate one of O’Sullivan’s looks, contrast the typically beautiful American look with fake fangs and dripping artificial blood, slicked back hair and minimal makeup.
Tierra Whack – Cyclops6 Images
Ancient Greek mythology is an underused inspiration for Halloween costumes. Back in 2018, Petra Collins and psychedelic rap artist Tierra Whack put together the perfect bridal cyclops look. Wearing a disgusting Simone Rocha dress composed of layers of white lace and tulle, Wack adds long braided braids, saccharine pink blush, and, her biggest delinquency, a disturbing third prosthetic arm. , achieving the look of a cyclops.
The best part about this style is that all you really need is a third eye, and the rest of the costume can be completely customized to suit your style, or just what you have in your wardrobe.
