When I was a kid, trick-or-treating meant running through the neighborhood in the dark, completely free from your parents and completely terrified on Halloween. I would like to ask my parents to let me go to a haunted house with my friends. Once you get there, you’ll quickly regret it (you only went in for the candy corn).
A new feature in the Verizon app called Safe Walk could become a Halloween helpline for kids. This allows you to ask for a little help if your child is anxious about being alone, but not to the point of being scared. I don’t want to try it.
For many families, Halloween night can be a fun way to experiment with safe walks and give parents extra awareness when their kids are out trick-or-treating. Families can also practice new features together when setting up Safe Walk.
“These capabilities go beyond typical GPS monitoring,” said Stephen Sneeden, senior manager, Verizon Consumer Products. “It gives children more control and allows parents to step in if needed.”
