For many people, vacation is a time to feel good and be comfortable. But not for you. Since you’re a hiker, you’ll be ready to hit the trail as soon as you send your away message. But finding a new vacation destination where the views and trails are as beautiful as the price can be difficult.
GOBankingRates laced up their hiking boots, grabbed their hiking sticks, and boldly sought out the best places to hike this holiday season. It didn’t give my wallet any euphoria.
grand canyon hike
REI: These three little letters have a big impact on the world of outdoor adventure. It’s no surprise, then, that the company itself hosts a variety of retreats, including tours to the Grand Canyon for intermediate-level hikers. For four days, you’ll walk about nine miles a day through the majestic Grand Canyon with other hikers. National park lodging with valley views is also available as part of the $3,299 package ($2,999 for REI members).
Hiking and camping in Joshua Tree National Park
Vacation in beautiful Joshua Tree National Park with another travel package from REI. During your four-day stay in Southern California, you’ll enjoy 4- to 8-mile hikes through a complex and diverse desert landscape, along with guide-prepared meals. For REI members, this camping trip costs $1,799. If not, you’ll be looking at a $1,979 price tag.
Zion National Park
RunRepeat’s site calls St. George, Utah, the state’s “warm-weather getaway” and “the perfect winter getaway for those who want to enjoy stunning mountain views without battling frigid temperatures.” There is. It’s also home to beautiful Zion National Park, which offers a wide variety of trails for hikers of all levels. A standard pass costs between $20 and $35, while an annual national park pass costs just $70. If you’re looking for an overnight trip, you can stay at Zion Lodge or take advantage of the extensive campgrounds.
