The City of Evanston is reminding dog and cat owners to submit their 2025 pet registrations by December 31, 2024.
Pet registration forms will be mailed on October 31, 2024. Residents can easily renew their pet license online, mail the renewal form using the envelope provided, or submit the form to the City Collector’s Office located in Room 1300 of the Morton Civic. Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. To receive a pet permit, your application must have a current rabies tag number.
Pet owners who have not submitted a current rabies vaccination certificate to the City or who have not received an application by mail can obtain an application online.
First-time applicants can apply and pay for their 2025 pet license online at the same time. To complete the online application, residents must be able to upload a scanned copy or image of their pet’s current rabies vaccination certificate.
City ordinance requires a pet license for all dogs and cats over 4 months of age. The annual cost is $10 if your pet is spayed or neutered, $15 if not spayed or neutered.
The biggest benefit of registering a pet with the City of Evanston is that pet owners have a better chance of reuniting their dog or cat if it gets lost. Applying for a license also serves as a reminder to renew your pet’s potentially life-saving annual rabies vaccination. Additionally, pet owners must present a pet permit issued by their city of residence in order to purchase a dog beach pass.
