SACRAMENTO – Two pets died after a fire broke out at a Sacramento apartment late Monday morning, firefighters said.
The scene is near C Street and 25th Street. The Sacramento Fire Department said crews arrived around 10 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from a second-floor unit.
Two residents were injured in the incident. One of them ended up being taken to a hospital, officials said.

Crews arrived to find smoke billowing from the second floor of the apartment building. Two people were injured and one was taken to the hospital. There were a total of 12 pets inside. Ten of them were treated and rescued by the crew. The cause is unknown. pic.twitter.com/aTPqXBJvLz

Firefighters said there were a total of 12 pets inside the apartment, but crews were able to treat and save only 10.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
